She was raised in Villa Altagracia and relocated to Santo Domingo at the age of 14. She grew up poor, and because of this she is sometimes reffered to as the Dominican Cinderella.

Ada De La Cruz as she is best known, became Internationally famous for her title as Miss Dominican Republic 2009 and Miss Universe 2009 first runner-up. Although she already had fame in the Dominican Republic after placing in the top 15 for the 2007 Miss dominican Republic world in 2007 and her win as Miss World Beach beauty in the same year.

While competing, she represented her Grandparents home, San José de Ocoa (Same place that birthed the wrestling Dominican Legend Jack Veneno).
