Born November 21, 1940 in Santa Cruz del Seibo, El Seibo, Dominican Republic. He was usually referred to as simply Freddy Beras by most.
Freddy Beras-Goico’s claim to fame was related to media in a career that ran 30 years, be it T.V. presenter, writer for his show “El Gorde De La Semana” (The Fat Man of the Week), “Punto Final” and “Con Freddy y Punto”. He also dealt with the media in Radio, and was also an actor, winning the Casandra Award for his role in Victor/Victoria.
As a child in the 1950′s due to the terrorism brought to the Dominican Republic during the dictatorship of Trujillo, his family fled to Colombia where he would end up spending many years before returning to his home land in the 70′s. This change of scenery would help vary his comedic style and aid in making him diverse entertainer.
in New York City Hospital Mount Sinai where he had been hospitalized since the 5th of November due to illness. The death was later confirmed by his son Giancarlo to local TV at 6:30 a.m., he also announced the death via tweeter:
“It is with great pain that I announce the death of my father. Infinite thanks to all for your solidarity in these days. Peace to his remains,”
Also known as a philanthropist for his aid to the poor, he was more than a media personality to most who grew up watching him, a sort of Father figure and great friend to those he got to share the stage with such as “Boruga”, Pamela Sued, Milton Pelaez, Luisito Marti, Cuquin Victoria and many more. He was also known for speaking his mind against the injustices of the government, going against the governments wish to have people give up their weapons because of the rampant violence of the Dominican republic.
Freddy Beras-Goico will surely be missed.
